Seasonal Pet Concerns
Summer time Safety Tips for Pets
1. Summertime means fun in the sun…but
make sure your pet is always protected! When you spend time at the beach, lake,
or pool, ensure your pet doesn’t ingest water. Chlorinated water and ocean
water can be dangerous for consumption. We also recommend that if you take your
pet with you on a boat ride, make sure you have a lifejacket for them as well!
2. Summertime means cookouts, but it’s
so important to make sure our pets are safe at these events! When you’re at a
cookout, there are so many dangers they can encounter, from barbecue ribs and
corn-on-the-cob which can cause choking hazards, to grills which can tip over
and cause burn injuries. The team at Dansville Animal Hospital recommends that
you give your pet their own place to lie down during picnics and barbecues.
This offers them an opportunity to stay out of the action and relax.
3. Do you have a swimming pool in your
backyard? Make sure to follow all safety precautions when it comes to pools and
pets. This includes keeping your pool deck gated and locked to keep your pet
from going by the pool unattended. When you are
hanging out by the pool, use extra caution when allowing your pet to swim.
Ensure they’re always being watched to prevent drowning. Consumption of
chlorinated water can also be extremely dangerous to them! Have questions about
